Sarcophaga nigriventris -
Small (about 8mm long) flesh fly that parasitises, preys or scavenges upon snails and other arthropods. ID confirmed by Liekele Sijstermans, see www.diptera.info/forum/viewthread.php?forum_id=5&thre... for details. Previously known as Pierretia nigriventris which is what it is called on the NBN Gateway which records no previous observations in East Suffolk. This must be due to under-reporting as the fly seems to be quite common in my garden, not to mention in the conservatory.

Details for the record: East Suffolk, Ipswich: Christchurch Park area: indoors TM16644502 23-May-2014 Recorded by M Cooper Determined by Liekele Sijstermans on diptera.info M Cooper
© Martin Cooper from Ipswich, UK - CC BY 2.0 - Wikimedia Commons
